Guardians of the Balance between life and death, operating from deep within the eastern jungles.

The Priests of Rathma are not a death cult. They are pragmatists who hold that the dominance of either Heaven or Hell over Sanctuary is an existential threat — and that the cycle of life and death must be preserved against both. Necromancy is their practice and their tool; the Balance is their purpose.

Their home is the Necropolis, a vast underground city hidden in the jungles of Kehjistan. They have been in persistent conflict with the Zakarum Church, which persecutes them. They have largely resisted corruption by the Prime Evils — partly by philosophy, partly by the fact that their own order hunts members who overstep. The Blackthorn Arbiter enforces internal discipline: necromancers who upset the Balance are pursued by their own people.

A Priest of Rathma abroad is investigating a threat to the Balance. Their methods unsettle most people they meet. They are not interested in your comfort.

Guiding principles: The Balance above all — life, death, Heaven, Hell are all secondary to the cycle. Death is not evil; it is necessary. Self-policing as a mark of integrity.

Best fit: Cleric (Death or Grave), Wizard (Necromancy), Warlock.
