The Viz-Jaq'taar

A covert order that hunts mages corrupted by demonic influence. Most people do not know it exists.
Origins and mission
Section titled “Origins and mission”The Viz-Jaq’taar were created by the Vizjerei in the aftermath of the Mage Clan Wars as a form of institutional penance. Their purpose is to identify and eliminate mages who have been touched by demonic corruption, policing the mage clans, including the Vizjerei themselves. The order’s code is drawn from Lam Esen’s Tome.
Its agents draw their power from within: martial discipline, engineered weapons, and a trained mind rather than arcane sources. Because their strength does not come from magic, they cannot be corrupted through magical contact the way a mage can, which is what fits them to hunt the corruption they pursue.
Beliefs and outlook
Section titled “Beliefs and outlook”The order holds that corruption must be found and removed regardless of who carries it, and that power drawn from within cannot be turned against its wielder. Secrecy is treated as a discipline in its own right. The Viz-Jaq’taar are deeply secretive; most people, including many mages, have no confirmed knowledge that the order exists, and the mere rumor of it serves as a deterrent.
Ties to Tristram
Section titled “Ties to Tristram”A Viz-Jaq’taar abroad is on assignment. Signs of demonic corruption spreading in the west are precisely the kind of threat the order watches for, and are reason enough to send an agent toward Tristram to investigate. Such an agent does not explain the order, does not advertise what they are, and is accustomed to working without acknowledgment.
